Dr. Leonard J. Caputo, M.D.
Dr. Leonard J. Caputo is the founder and Medical
Director for the Asthma and Allergy Institute which has existed in
Mobile since 1994. Prior to founding AAI, Dr. Caputo has served the
Mobile and Baldwin counties as a private practice physician since 1978.
Dr. Caputo received his undergraduate degree in Microbiology from Florida
Atlantic University. He received his medical training at the University
of Miami school of Medicine where he completed his residency and internship
in Pediatrics and completed fellowship training in Allergy at Jackson
Memorial Hospital. Dr. Caputo is a Diplomate of the American Board
of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology and Diplomate of the American Board
of Pediatrics and is also a Certified Research Investigator.
Dr. Caputo has help many positions in addition to his current Medical
Director role with AAI including the Board of Directors of the Alabama
Society for Allergy and Immunology, Public Relations network for the
American College of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology, Chair Committee
Advisor to Thomas Hospital Latex Allergy in Healthcare Workers Board,
Volunteers for Committee on Key Contact Program – American College
of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology, and Past President of the Alabama
Society for Allergy and Immunology.
He is also a member of multiple societies including the American Academy
of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology, the American College of Asthma,
Allergy and Immunology, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the
Mobile and Baldwin County Medical Societies. Dr. Caputo also serves
on multiple speakers bureaus including Merck Pharmaceutical, GSK, Alcon
and Schering-Plough just to name a few.
Dr. Caputo and his wife of 36 years, Claire, currently reside in Mobile.
They have two sons, Patrice and Pascal, and he has one grandchild,
Alise Claire.
