Intradermal
Testing & Allergy Injections
As you are aware, allergy injections are an
effective treatment for allergic disease. In fact, allergy injections
are generally regarded as the best way to manage allergic disease
because they not only control symptoms but also prevent the progression
of
allergic illness.
Scientific research and clinical studies have now determined specific dosages
of allergy extracts which are even more effective, possibly eliminating the need
for medications and shortening the length of immunotherapy treatment.
A series of increasing dosages of allergy extracts given in a doctor’s
office to monitor response are required to reach the maintenance dose. Injections
are initially administered weekly and are then spaced out to only once per
month when the maintenance dose is reached.
Both the Academy of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology and the American College of
Asthma, Allergy and Immunology support and endorse these practice parameters.
In order to provide you with the best allergy care available, the Asthma and
Allergy Institute will implement these new practices immediately.
In some instances, additional skin tests may be needed to determine specific
sensitivities, and should not take any longer than thirty minutes to perform.
